After a lot of hard work by the local Slovak disc community, EFDF is now able to announce the European Under 17 Ultimate Championships '08 in Trnava, Slovakia. The divisions will be Open and Girls.

The plan is to at the same event also offer an inexpensive practice/preparation competition both for national Open and Jr Open/Women (possibly also Mixed and Women's) teams going to WUGC in Vancouver, and also for those that can't afford going there. This would make the event bigger and more interesting, and also motivate more countries to keep their national team programs going, or even get new ones started. It would also be inspirational for the European youth players to play alongside with adult teams.

Unfortunately the earlier polish organizer pulled out at a late stage, and with the aim of making it possible for U17 and Jr teams from Eastern Europe to attend, it was decided that Slovakia was a suitable back-up organizer. The ultimate team Outsiterz together with SAF, the Slovak Association of Frisbee, and the local company discline.com will form the organizing committee. Bratislava airport (40 km south of Trnava) being RyanAir and SkyEurope destinations is also a big plus.

The date is the first weekend in July (5-6/7), but the number of days depends on the number of teams that eventually register. An early estimate would be a 3-4 day event (Thursday3 / Friday July 4 - Sunday July 6) for the U17 divisions, and 2-3 days event for the remaining divisions.

This is a first announcement, more details concerning costs, alternatives etc will be sent out next week.

At the same time I'd also like to mention a "preparation" tournament for Jr and U17 national teams organized in Cologne, Germany on May 24-25, "The European Ultimate Juniors Summit 2008". For more info, email contact person matthias@brucklacher.com

Finally, if anyone wants to discuss youth issues, invite to tournaments etc., I suggest you go to the EFDF Forum at http://www.efdf.org/forums/ and register to gain access to the "Junior Ultimate" section.
